Alpha Chi, the Mens Ministries Brotherhood of FBC
ALPHA CHIAX are the greek letters Alpha and Chi, the first letters of the greek words Adelphoi Christou, or Brothers in Christ. Alpha Chi is the name our Men's Ministries at FBC have chosen to represent who we are and what we are all about.
On this web page, you will be introduced to the many facets of Mens Ministries, Alpha Chi, at FBC. All of these facets, from our mission and core values to our programs and activities, can be summed up in the words Brothers in Christ.
We are Adelphoi Christou, Brothers in Christ, standing together and being on mission in our homes, our church, our workplace and our community.
WHO WE ARE
AX is the new name of the ongoing Men's Ministries of FBC. AX members are men of all ages and walks of life who have joined together as brothers, united by our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We're not "super Christians", we're just regular guys who are committed to growing closer to Jesus and to supporting and encouraging each other.
AX men are associated with First Baptist Church, and are interested in following Jesus. These are the sole criteria for membership. If you are not a member of FBC, or if you have not yet taken the step of placing personal faith in Christ, you are still very welcome to participate in our activities. However, to be a brother in Christ means being in Christ, and so a central aim of our brotherhood is to lead men to that personal acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
AX men are leaders and faithful supporters in the church. But more than anything we are servants in that same sense that Christ modeled servant-leadership in John 13. Our purpose is to serve God in humility; to serve all men of FBC in brotherhood; to serve our families in love; and to serve our church and community in faithfulness.
BUILT TO SERVE
AX Mens Ministries are multi-faceted, yet integrated. AX provides an avenue for every man associated with FBC to fellowship, grow, serve and have fun. Our decentralized yet coordinated organizational structure is depicted below, and includes:
- Bible Study/Equipping - Undertakes activities designed to "equip the brotherhood" such as Bible Study, doctrinal discussion, discipleship.
- Care and Brotherhood - Provides care, support, encouragement and assistance to participants. Offers programs to build camaraderie and closeness among the brotherhood.
- Outreach and Service - Plans and executes programs to reach out to the community and specifically to men who need Christ. Plans and executes service projects
- Events and Activities - Plans events and activities such as breakfasts, retreats, socials
We invite you to find your place among the existing areas of servanthood, or, even better, start a new one of your own! Either way, AX will support you with resources, fellowship and fellow-servants.
SERVANTS ON MISSION
The mission of AX at FBC is to draw the men of Frederick County to Christ; to equip men to be servant-leaders in their home, church and community; to provide avenues for Christian service and outreach, and; to offer a network of support and encouragement for participants.
The Bible tells us in James 1:22 "Be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only…" This truth is central to AX, and in fulfilling our mission we seek to fulfill the call of James 1:22.
While servanthood steers AX, providing direction to our activities, the notion of being "on mission" is the engine that drives us. Accordingly, we undertake both planned and "ad hoc" activities that add value to our brotherhood, families, church and community. Some of our planned and/or ongoing activities include:
· Church cleanup/maintenance
· Minor property maintenance/cleanup for those in need
· Annual Mens Weekend Retreat
· Weekly Bible Study
· Confidential prayer support network
· Periodic breakfast fellowships
· Evening basketball
· Attending Promise Keepers events
· Attending sports events
· Golf outings
· Dads & Kids activities
Examples of "ad hoc" or "spur of the moment" activities include:
· Moving assistance
· Community cleanup
· "Hanging Out" activities with youth
· Ministering to brothers in any type of need
And this list can include any activity that incorporates service to others, spiritual growth, and very importantly, having fun. There's no limit to what AX can do, because there's no limit to the power of the Holy Spirit working in us.
